Samyang lenses
I was recently sent the samyang 75mm f1.8 by intro2020 which is the uk distributor for samyang
First impressions from the box are how small this lens is, anyone that’s used full frame Sony primes before will know how big they can get but this was a pleasant surprise as it means you won’t get as many awkward looks in the street as you do with the typical massive lenses on the front of the camera.
It came with a handy little protective case as well which made looking after it easier.
Taking it out to shoot I noticed straight away that the autofocus is silent, lightning fast and more importantly accurate, even in low light situations.
I used this lens for all situations to really see how it reacts.
Wide open at f1.8 the centre of the image is sharp and the bokeh pleasing but stop this lens down and it becomes amazingly sharp, I liked to shoot at f2.8 for portraits and f8 for my landscape photos which produced very good results.
the only negatives I could find were that it wasn’t weather sealed and the lens hood was loose when installed backwards for storage but these are minor things and honestly wouldn’t stop me recommending Samyang to anyone.
After three weeks I had to return the review unit which was a real shame as I had enjoyed my time with it thoroughly.
Having used the lens and testing it I can say for certain that Samyang are well worth considering if you’re in the market for a new prime lens.
